Ms Dallas Nesbitt, Senior Lecturer at Auckland University of Technology’s School of Language and Culture, was awarded the 2018 Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation at the Consul General’s residence on 12 September 2018.

Ms Nesbitt was instrumental in setting up the Japanese language course at Auckland University of Technology, and has spent many years training and nurturing students at the university. She has made a great contribution to the promotion of Japanese culture and Japanese language education and to nurturing teachers of Japanese through the establishment and growth of JSANZ, the national organization of tertiary Japanese language teachers.

At the ceremony, Consul General of Japan in Auckland Minoru Kikuchi praised Ms Nesbitt’s achievements and presented her with the award. Ms Nesbitt expressed her deepest thanks and her determination to further mutual understanding between Japan and New Zealand through Japanese language education and Japanese culture.

It was a very meaningful ceremony with a message from AUT Lecturer in Japanese Ms Yuka Waller, and a toast from Senior Lecturer in Japanese Dr Junji Kawai. Ms Nesbitt’s family, friends and colleagues all gathered to celebrate her achievement.
