Wings of Hope – A commemoration event for the fifth anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake was held in front of The Cloud in central Auckland.

At the event there was a speech from Consul-General Yoshitaka Yokoyama, a minute’ s silence at the time the earthquake occurred, an account from a former JET Participant who was in Fukushima when the earthquake struck, a report of the recovery, a Taiko performance and songs from a chorus group.

This occasion, marking 5 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, was a chance to remember the victims of this disaster, to be sure we don't forget the disaster and to report on the state of the recovery efforts in the affected areas.
