The JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme offers New Zealand citizens who hold a university degree or teaching degree opportunities to teach at primary, junior high and senior high schools as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) or to work in local government organizations as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR).

Applications for the 2027 JET Programme are now open.  Application forms and guidelines can be found on the Embassy website . Please submit applications to the Embassy of Japan in Wellington, not our office in Auckland.

22 September 2026	Applications open
December 1 2026	Applications close
January 2027	Interviews
April 2027	Notification of selection/placement for early arrival Announcement of short-list candidates and reserves
May 2027	Departure of early arrivals Notification of selection and placement for main group
June - December 2027	Notification of reserves being upgraded to the short-list
June/July 2027	Q&A Desk, Pre-departure orientation, visa application, etc
1 August 2027	Arrival in Japan and start of contract for main group

Since its inception in 1987, the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme has produced thousands of alumni that can be found working across different sectors and industries globally, harnessing the personal and professional skills and knowledge they developed whilst they were on the Programme.
