The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme

The JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme offers New Zealand citizens who hold a university degree or teaching qualification opportunities to teach at primary, junior high and senior high schools as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) or to work in local government organizations as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR).

Applications for the 2024 JET Programme are now open!  Please see the Embassy of Japan in New Zealand website for application forms and information.

Information Sessions for the 2025 JET Programme

In preparation for the 2025 JET programme applications opening in October, we will be holding information sessions on the following dates:

Monday 23 September 2024
University of Auckland  - 6pm-7.30pm, 206.315

Wednesday 25 September 2024
AUT University  - 12pm-1.30pm, Room WF711

September 2023 Applications open
5 December 2023 Applications close
Late January 2024 Interviews
March 2024 Announcement of short-list status for early arrival
Notification of selection/placement for early arrival
April 2024 Announcement of short-list candidates and reserves
7 April 2024 Arrival in Japan for April arrivals
May 2024 Notification of selection and placement
June - December 2024 Notification of reserves being upgraded to the short-list
June/July 2024 Q&A Desk, Pre-departure orientation, visa application, etc
Late July/Early August 2024 Arrival in Japan and start of contract

Since its inception in 1987, the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme has produced thousands of alumni that can be found working across different sectors and industries globally, harnessing the personal and professional skills and knowledge they developed whilst they were on the Programme.
