The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme

The JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme offers New Zealand citizens who hold a university degree or teaching qualification opportunities to teach at primary, junior high and senior high schools as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) or to work in local government organizations as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR).

Applications for the 2021 JET Programme are now closed. Applications for 2022 will open in October 2021. Please see the Embassy of Japan in New Zealand website for application details.

Notification of selection/placement for early arrival
April 2021 Announcement of short-list candidates and reserves

June - December 2021 Notification of reserves being upgraded to the short-list
July/August 2021 Q&A Desk, Pre-departure orientation, visa application, etc
12 September 2021 Arrival in Japan and start of contract
