New Zealand Under-15 Baseball Team Farewell Reception

Date Tuesday 19 July 2016
Venue Parnells on the Rose Garden

The Consulate General of Japan held a farewell party for the New Zealand Under-15 Baseball team who will take part in the Third WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2016 (to be held from 29 July to 7 August) in Iwaki. As part of the Japanese Government’s Sport for Tomorrow programme the team will have a training camp, practice games, and do sightseeing in various regions of Japan in preparation for the event.

At the farewell reception Consul General Yokoyama gave the team some words of encouragement, Mr Peter Elliot, director of Baseball New Zealand, offered words of thanks to the Japanese Government, and Mr Naoyuki Shimizu, head coach of the New Zealand under-15 team, spoke of his goals for the tournament. In addition, each of the players gave an enthusiastic speech to 70 guests including team members and their families, Baseball New Zealand directors and sponsors.

It was not only a great effort to advance baseball in New Zealand but also an opportunity to further understanding of the Sport for Tomorrow programme and Japan’s contribution to sports.

We look forward to the New Zealand Under-15 Baseball Team’s performance in Japan.
