2026/4/10
On March 25, a welcome reception was held at the Consul General’s Residence in Auckland for JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme participants who returned from Japan in 2025.

During the reception, Consul General MATSUI extended a warm welcome to the returning JETs and his gratitude for supporters of this Programme. Then, highlighting the vital role JET participants play in fostering the future Japan-New Zealand relationship, the Consul General stated his hope that these returning individuals will become new bridges between the two countries, and encouraged them to actively energize the connections within the JET Alumni Association (JETAA) going forward.

The welcomed participants conveyed their profound gratitude for the JET Programme and captivated attendees by sharing invaluable insights from their experiences as ALTs (Assistant Language Teachers) at schools across various regions of Japan and local cultural learning.

The reception served as an excellent platform for networking, bringing together members of the Auckland JETAA, university educators who actively promote the JET Programme, and dedicated members of the JET Programme interview panel. The participants enjoyed this occasion with foods popular in Japan prepared by Official Chef Kitazono, and sake, plum wine and more together.

The Consulate-General will continue to support the JET Programme and contribute to the further development of amicable relations between Japan and New Zealand.
