Opening film for Auckland
Yasuaki Shikano, 34. Suffering from muscular dystrophy, wheelchair user. Self-centered, talkative, overly free-spirited!
A human drama depicting Yasuaki Shikano, who lived his dreams while struggling with muscular dystrophy. He was loved by everyone – the volunteers and families who supported him. Despite being unable to live without help, he leaves the hospital and begins an independent life. With many volunteer helpers, he lives like a king but is loved and hated at the same time. One night, Yasuaki falls in love with Mitsuki, his new volunteer helper unaware that she is already in a relationship with Hisashi Tanaka (Miura Haruma) a medical college student.
This is a moving drama based on a true story depicting the life of people who meet and changed with Yasuaki, through their experiences with laughter and tears. Yo Oizumi, who plays the role Yasuaki, lost 10-kilos before filming to resemble the character he was to portray. He also perfectly embodies the charm of Yasuaki bringing to life his humorous character.
