The JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme offers New Zealand citizens who hold a university degree or teaching degree opportunities to teach at primary, junior high and senior high schools as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) or to work in local government organizations as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR).

Applications for the 2026 JET Programme are now closed.  For reference only, application forms and guidelines can be found on the Embassy website . Applications for the 2027 JET Progamme will open in October 2026.

Information sesssions for 2027 JET programme applications will be held on the following dates:
 

October 2026	Applications open
Late November 2026	Applications close
January 2027	Interviews
March 2027	Announcement of short-list status for early arrival Notification of selection/placement for early arrival
April 2027	Announcement of short-list candidates and reserves
11 April 2027	Arrival in Japan for April arrivals
May 2027	Notification of selection and placement
June - December 2027	Notification of reserves being upgraded to the short-list
June/July 2027	Q&A Desk, Pre-departure orientation, visa application, etc
1 August 2027	Arrival in Japan and start of contract

Since its inception in 1987, the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme has produced thousands of alumni that can be found working across different sectors and industries globally, harnessing the personal and professional skills and knowledge they developed whilst they were on the Programme.
