Kauri Flats School

2019/12/18

On Thursday 14 November, consulate staff visited Kauri Flats School to meet 20 students from year 4 to year 8 with our special friend Paro, robot seal

The cuddly Paro was very popular with children. Paro, the most famous therapeutic baby seal in the world, intended to be very cute and to have a calming effect on and elicit emotional responses from patients of hospitals and nursing homes, similar to animal-assisted therapy.

We also talked about Japanese foods. The students were very interested to see surprisingly realistic Japanese food samples.  Then, students learnt how to wear Yukata (Japanese summer casual kimono) and happi coat.  They were especially enthusiastic when they got the chance to try on beautiful and colorful yukata.

We thank you very much for the beautiful cards with lovely messages from students.  We hope see you all again sometime in near future!
