Oropi School

On Friday 24 March 2023, consulate staff visited Oropi School (Year 6-8, total 30 students) in the beuatiful rural outskirts of Tauranga with our special friend Paro. The cuddly Paro was very popular with children. Paro, the most famous therapeutic baby seal in the world, is intended to be very cute and to have a calming effect on and elicit emotional responses from patients of hospitals and nursing homes, similar to animal-assisted therapy.
Students also enjoyed learning Japanese culture and basic Japanese words through the DVD and presentation.
They were especially enthusiastic when they got the chance to try on beautiful and colorful yukata (Japanese casual summer kimono), happi (Japanese traditional coat) .
It was a great opportunity to introduce Japanese culture to the students to build interest. We thank you so much for your warm and hearfelt welcome. We hope we can visit this amazing school in the future.
