Exchange with Budo Practitioners in New Zealand (11 March 2026)

On March 11, Consul General MATSUI hosted a cultural exchange and discussion with martial arts practitioners in New Zealand at the Official Residence. This meeting was held as a follow-up to the "2023 Japan and New Zealand Budo Cultural Exchange Program" organized by the Nippon Budokan. Representatives from Kendo, Iaido, Aikido, Judo, Karate, Shorinji Kempo, and Kyudo participated in the event, exchanging views on the development of Japanese martial arts in New Zealand. The discussions covered wide topics such as how to expand the base of martial arts practitioners and how to create an environment for lifelong engagement in martial arts. We sincerely hope that our Budo spirit will continue to be passed down through generations here in New Zealand, further deepening the bonds between our two countries.
