Taste of Japan: Takumi

Taste of Japan 2018 “Takumi” was jointly hosted by the New Zealand Japan Society and the Consulate General of Japan in Auckland on August 24 to August 26.
At the two venues of Auckland Art gallery and Auckland War Memorial Museum there were stage performances of Taiko drumming, shamisen, kendo, and a cosplay show, tea ceremony and Shodo demonstrations, and a bonsai display. Also, there was a workshop by Wagashi (Japanese sweets) master Kei Miyazawa and a Daruma making demonstration by Daruma master Yasuhisa Imai. In addition, there was an exhibition of Haiku and Shodo works created by local students of Japanese and Consul General of Japan Kikuchi attended to award prizes to the students.
The festival was an opportunity for visitors to the Gallery and Museum to gain a greater understanding of Japan’s attractions through a variety of Japanese cultural activities.
