Introduction of Rakugo to Consular Corps

On 11 June at the Consul General’s residence, the Auckland Consular Corps were introduce to one of Japan’s traditional arts of Rakugo, by Mr Hiroshi Nakatsuji who is pioneering a new type of English language Rakugo.
Rakugo is a type of traditional storytelling which was first seen in the Edo period and has been handed down to the present day. It was an opportunity for the invited consular corps to enjoy Rakugo, and promote understanding of Japan through this aspect of Japanese culture.
