Consul General Hamada Visits Rotorua
2022/2/16
On 1 February 2022, Consul General Hamada visited Rotorua and paid a courtesy call on Mayor Steve Chadwick. The meeting was also attended by Councillor Trevor Maxwell and Councillor Fisher Wang.
Rotorua, known for its geysers and natural hot springs, formed a sister city agreement in 1987 with Beppu city in Oita prefecture and has been enjoying exchange for more than 30 years. To celebrate the 30th anniversary in 2017 a delegation of officials from Beppu led by the deputy mayor visited Rotorua. Beppu city was the location of the camp for the All Blacks in the 2019 Rugby World Cup, where local residents and players enjoyed the opportunity for exchange. The Japan New Zealand Business Council Conference which was scheduled to be held in Rotorua in 2021 unfortunately had to be arranged online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the 2022 conference is scheduled to be held in Beppu so there is great expectation for further exchange between Beppu and Rotorua.
