Investiture ceremony for Mrs Dallas Nesbitt (3 March 2023)

On Friday 3 March, an investiture ceremony was held at the Consul General’s residence for Mrs Dallas Nesbitt, recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette in the 2022 Autumn Conferment of Decorations.
 
Mrs Dallas Nesbitt has contributed to promoting academic exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and New Zealand. She has been dedicated to Japanese language education in New Zealand for around 40 years. She  was involved in establishing the Japanese course at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in 1984 and since then has played a central role in developing Japanese language education at AUT. She wrote a Japanese textbook and has conducted research into Japanese language education methodology. She also played a central role in the establishment and development of Japanese Studies Aotearoa New Zealand (JSANZ).
 
At the ceremony, Consul General Shinichi Hamada congratulated Mrs Nesbitt on her achievements and presented her with the decoration. Former AUT Senior Lecturer Dr Junji Kawai spoke of Mrs Nesbitt’s achievements and congratulated her.
 
Upon receiving the decoration, Mrs Nesbitt expressed her great enjoyment of nurturing students to become a bridge between Japan and New Zealand through Japanese language education and her deepest appreciation at being able to share the honour of this decoration with friends and colleagues who have supported education and research.
 
The ceremony was attended by family, friends and colleagues involved in Japanese language education and Japanese studies, to celebrate in Mrs Nesbitt's honour.
