Fukuoka City-Auckland Sister City Events (24, 25 November 2023)

To celebrate 37 years of the sister city relationship between Fukuoka City and Auckland, in anticipation of a full-fledged resumption of exchange post-COVID, a delegation from Fukuoka City visited Auckland, led by Mr RYU Yasunori, Chief Executive of the General Affairs & Planning Bureau.

On 24 November, at the Consul General's official residence, Fukuoka City invited Auckland Council Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson, Councillor John Watson, Councillor Wayne, Councillor Shane Henderson, Waitemata Local Board Chairperson Genevieve Sage and Board Member Alexandra Bonham and members of the Fukuoka Friendship Garden Group (FFGG).  Also Fukuoka City presented a letter of appreciation to the FFGG members including Mr Ian Henderson. 

On 25 November, Chief Executive Mr RYU, Consul-General MATSUI, Ms Genevieve Sage Chairperson of the Waitemata Local Board and Mr Ian Henderson from FFGG delivered speeches, and planted Japanese apricot trees at the Fukuoka Garden in Auckland. This Japanese apricot trees are a testimony to the friendship between the two cities, which has steadily taken root thanks to the efforts of all concerned.
It is hoped that these events will further widen the circle of exchange between the two cities and strengthen the bonds of friendship and trust.
