2024/4/9
The Consulate-General of Japan held the Japan Foundation Travelling Exhibition “Variation and Autonomy : The Prints of Contemporary Japanese Painters” at Studio One Toi Tū from 29 February to 28 March, in collaboration with Auckland Council, Studio One Toi Tū and the Japan Foundation.
This exhibition introduced works by 10 Japanese painters who drew on trends in contemporary art and explored a wide range of possibilities of expressions by the print medium. The exhibition included displays, film screenings and related workshops, aiming attention at reassessing the existing history of contemporary Japanese prints.
The opening ceremony was attended by many guests including Waitemata Local Board Member Richard Northey. At the ceremony, Consul General Matsui expressed his appreciation to all the supporters and also his expectation that by way of print-making the expanded possibilities of modern art expressions would be locally enjoyed, and that this travelling exhibition would contribute to furthering mutual exchange and understanding between the peoples of Japan and NZ.
Thank you everyone who visited and enjoyed the exhibition, including representatives of galleries.
