The 2024 Auckland International Open Judo Championship (20 July 2024)

The 2024 Auckland International Open Judo Championship was held at Barfoot & Thompson Stadium on 20 and 21 July. This event was organised by Judo NZ (JNZ) and Auckland Judo Association with practitioners of Judo from not only New Zealand but from all over the world.
Consul General MATSUI attended the Championship on 20 July, and made a speech sharing his sincere respect and appreciation to Mr David Mair, president of JNZ, and Mr Johan Boshoff, president of the Auckland Judo Association for organising this championship to promote this traditional Japanese martial art in New Zealand and internationally. He was also honoured to present 2023 JNZ Honorary Awards to Mr Robert Levy(*1), Mr William Vincent(*2) and Mr Graeme Downing(*3).
Consul General MATSUI, touching upon his own experience of learning Judo in high school, promised continued support of its activities to make further close, sound and robust relationships and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and New Zealand through Judo in the future.

(*2) JNZ Kata Director & JNZ Grading Commission Member, former JNZ Coach, former JNZ High Performance Commission member, JNZ Team Manager. He was selected for 1980, 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.
(*3) JNZ Selector. Former NZ Team Manager, Auckland Area Director and JNZ Youth Commission Director.
