Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Hamilton - Saitama Sister City Relationship (22 October, 2024)

On 22 October 2024, Mr SHIMIZU Hayato, the Mayor of Saitama City, Mr HOASHI Kazuyuki, the Chairperson of Saitama City Council and other members attended the ceremony for the Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Hamilton - Saitama Sister City Relationship organised by Hamilton City Council. The celebration was attended by Consul General MATSUI.

Hamilton Mayor Paula Southgate welcomed the Saitama City delegation and gave congratulatory remarks on their 40th Anniversary. Mayor Southgate stated that Hamilton City has developed its relationship with Saitama City, which is its longest-standing sister city, mainly focusing on cultural exchange, but would like to expand its scope to economic exchange. Mayor SHIMIZU expressed his appreciation for the welcome and stated that he would like to deepen the relationship between the two cities based on their 40 years of history. During the discussion, they agreed to continue to work together to further promote cultural and economic exchanges.

Also the Saitama City delegation and Consul General MATSUI visited Matamata Intermediate School which has been conducting school exchanges with the schools in Saitama City for a long time. They received a traditional Maori welcome from the students and were given a tour of the school.
