Consul General Matsui
Guest speaker
The Consulate-General of Japan held the Japan Foundation Travelling Exhibition “YAKISHIME – Earth Metamorphosis” at Estuary Arts Centre from 1 October to 28 October, in collaboration with Estuary Arts Centre and the Japan Foundation.

The exhibition focuses on Yakishime wares and presents their history from the earliest examples to the present through Yakishime tea vessels, food vessels, and works that transform Yakishime into non-utilitarian objets d’art, aiming to provide an excellent opportunity to communicate this distinctively Japanese sensibility and aesthetic to the people abroad.

The opening ceremony was attended by many guests including Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Deputy Chairperson, Mr Gary Brown. At the ceremony, Consul General Matsui expressed his appreciation to all the supporters that this travelling exhibition would contribute to furthering mutual exchange and understanding between the peoples of Japan and NZ.

Thank you everyone who visited and enjoyed the exhibition, including representatives and supporters of the gallery.
