2024/11/27

On 25 and 26 November, Consul General Matsui participated in the East Asia International Conference hosted by the New Zealand Asia Institute’s Japan Studies Centre at the University of Auckland. Supported by the Japan Foundation and the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust, researchers from countries across the Indo-Pacific region gathered to engage in lively discussions over the course of two days on the theme of “Ensuring Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth in East Asia”.
In his opening remarks, Consul General Matsui introduced Japan's efforts to shift from a cost-cutting economy to a high-value-added economy in order to achieve a “new form of capitalism” that aims for a virtuous cycle of growth and distribution. He highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing and cooperation with Indo-Pacific countries, which are the engines of global growth in pursuit of a free and open international order.
