Attendance of Sogetsu Auckland Branch Ikebana Exhibition (11 October 2025)

On 11 and 12 October 2025, Sogetsu Auckland Branch held their annual Ikebana exhibition at Eden Garden in Auckland. Sogetsu Auckland Branch Director Tomoko Hirano opened the event expressing her gratitude at being able to hold the exhibition with this year’s theme: “Flowers are the Heart” in mind. Consul General MATSUI made a speech, in which, while paying his sincere respect to Ms. Takako Martin and Sogetsu Auckland Branch for their decades of contribution and dedication to promoting Ikebana in New Zealand with reference to what fascinates him with Ikebana which reflects the creator’s heart, he reconfirmed continued support for Sogetsu Auckland Branch by the Consulate-General of Japan.
The exhibition featured displays of the works by Sogetsu Auckland members and Ikebana demonstrations from Vice Director Keiko Murakami and other members. This exhibition which was attended by many visitors including Ms. Anne Marie Kendall QSM, co-chair of NZ Māori Council, Consuls General and Honorary Consuls and was a special occasion for them to further their understanding of the pleasure and creativity of the traditional Japanese art of Ikebana.
