Japan Day 2026 (22 February 2026)

The Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland and the Japanese Society of Auckland held Japan Day 2026 at Auckland Showgrounds on Sunday 22 February.
At the opening ceremony, there were speeches from Japanese Society of Auckland President Naomi KURODA, Consul-General Shinji MATSUI and Member of Parliament Melissa Lee. There was also the attendance by members of the Auckland Consular Corps, which contributed widely to the lively exchange on the Japanese culture.
On the stage there were Shishimai (lion dance), J‑POP, dance performances from Yosakoi group and Japanese children, Aikido, Iaido, and Shorinji Kempo, singing of “Sakura,” and cosplay..
At booths around the venue there was a wide range of Japan-related activities including an Ikebana exhibition, Japanese tea ceremony, Japanese painting exhibition, hands-on pottery experiences, sales of Japanese goods, Sake tasting, a beer hall, promotions of Japanese companies including Honda Motor Co.,Ltd, a Japanese language seminar, Japan tourism promotions, mochi-pounding and games by local Japanese supplementary school students and alumni volunteers, and local life support.
Japan Day which has been loved by our communities enjoyed the wonderful bustle for this time with the theme of 'Oishii' - various tastes of Japanese culture. Thanks for coming!
