Consul General MATSUI visits Tauranga (31 January 2024)

On 31 January 2024, Consul General MATSUI paid a courtesy visit to Tauranga Commission Chair Anne Tolley at Tauranga City Council.
Tauranga, an industrial city which has the largest trading port in New Zealand, formed a sister city agreement in 1988 with Hitachi city in Ibaraki prefecture and has been enjoying exchange for more than 30 years.
During the discussion , they agreed to continue to cooperate to further promote economic and investment exchange between the two countries towards restarting the active sister city exchange and strengthening business ties with Japanese companies, now that the pre-COVID situation is being regained. In addition, Ms. Tolley was briefed on the recent activities by Oji Fibre Solutions NZ operating with the port which we visited on the same day, and renewed her understanding of the company’s contribution to the development of the local economy and NZ-Japan trade relations.
