Simply bring in your application at Level 15, 41 Shortland Street, Auckland 
Consular office hours: Monday to Friday: 9:00 - 12:00 / 13:00 - 15:30


The Consulate-General of Japan is closed on weekends, NZ public holidays and some Japanese public holidays.  Please see HERE for a list of our public holidays for this year.

VISA TYPE A : For sightseeing; visiting relatives, friends or acquaintances

Invitation Letter Visa Application Form

*Signed by the applicant (Form / Sample)
*leave a section blank if you are unsure
*write "n/a" if it doesn't apply to you

*tick "Single" if you are not legally married
*In case of a non-schooling age minor, a parent or a legal representative can sign a form but please indicate the relationship (e.g. signed by mother)

The Consulate is NOT responsible for tickets which may be unusable due to the delay or denial of a visa.

*There is no rule about the funding amount you must have because it will depend on your schedule

NOTE:
  • VISA FEE is due when the visa has been issued
  • Additional documentation may be required
  • No documents other than your passport will be returned
  • Even with possession with a visa, final permission to enter Japan remains at the discretion of the immigration authorities
  • Applicants 17 years old and under don’t have to come and even the authorisation letters are not required from them as long as the parents lodge all the family members’ visa applications together.  The parents can even collect their passports without the children being present when the visa assessment is completed

VISA TYPE B: For Business, meeting, attending conferences, athletic tournaments etc... (*non-profit making *non-paid activities *no remuneration received)

  • Children 17 years of age and under don’t have to come and even the authorisation letters are not required from them as long as the parents, gurdian, teacher or representative lodge visa applications as well as can even collect their passports without the children being present when the visa assessment is completed
