Transit Visa
2024/1/4
Back to Visa homepage
◆ There is NO urgent/priority visa processing service
(Applications submitted on short notice will not be accepted)
◆ New Zealand passport holders do not require a visa to enter Japan for the purposes of transit.
◆ Applications from those in New Zealand on a *visitor visa will not be accepted.
*Applicants must hold a valid long-term NZ visa (Resident, Work, Student, Guardian)
◆ A Transit Visa is only issued to travellers who will stop over in Japan en-route to another country, transfer to the another airport (e.g. Narita to Haneda) or stay overnight due to flight schedules.
◆ If your purpose is sightseeing or visiting friends/relatives, you must apply for a Temporary Visitor's Visa, not a Transit Visa.
◆ If you are transiting within the terminals at the same airport, at same day and do not plan to leave the secure transit area, then no visa is required.
◆ Please contact your airline(s) to confirm whether or not you will go through the Customs and Immigration area at the transferring airport. If you will, then you most likely need a transit visa. If not, then you do not need a transit visa.
