Applicants intending to work/study/live (including Spouse/Child of Japanese National- (日本人の配偶者・子を含む)) in Japan should in principle obtain a Certificate of Eligibility before applying for the visa. This Certificate of Eligibility is issued by the Ministry of Justice in Japan. It can be obtained by the inviting Japanese employer/school/organization/family in Japan through the local immigration office in Japan on your behalf. This means that in principle all applicants are required to have a Japanese sponsor.
Simply bring in your application during our consulor section hours:
9am - 12pm or 1pm - 3:30pm (Monday to Friday and except Public Holidays)

How to apply for a visa (2 ways)
(1) Apply in person (office address & map)
You do not have to make an appointment to visit the officeSimply bring in your application during our consulor section hours:

(2) Appy by post
Applicants reside in outside of Auckland can apply visa by courier and must be trackable- Must be resides within our jurisdiction
- Our office is not responsible for delay of delivery or loss/damage of passports in the mail
- Please fill in a "pledge form" then email back to us before sending your documents (MANDATORY)
- Do NOT send money: Visa fee need to be paid at the time of passport collection
- Courier ALL the required documents (including the original passport)
- You must come IN PERSON to visit our office to collect you own passport

THE CERTIFICATE IS VALID FOR 3 MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF ISSUE

1. Valid passport (ORIGINAL): Please note that we will keep passports while processing visa applications(Applications submitted on short notice will not be accepted)

For non-NZ/AUS passport holder
- with valid NZ Visa (Resident/Work/Student) or copy of e-visa (Resident/Work/Student)
- transfer your NZ Visa when you renew your passport, otherwise we can't accept your visa application
- applications from those in NZ on any types of visitor visa will not be accepted
2. One passport sized photograph
PLEASE USE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICE
(we may reject it if it's not done by professional due to the quality reasons)
- must be taken within the last six months
- New Zealand standard passport size OR 45mm x 35mm
- Do not scan and print onto paper
3. One completed visa application form
- write "n/a" if it doesn't apply to you (e.g. "ID number", "Guarantor", "Inviter" etc...)
- DO NOT use digital signature
4. Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)
- eihter original CoE, readable scanned copy of CoE (front & back)
- Digital CoE printed copy of the email
5. Visa fee (if applicable)
- due when the visa has been issued (cash only)

- Please do not staple documents together or use staple
- Additional documentation may be required
- No documents other than your passport and the Certificate of Eligibility will be returned
- Possession of a visa does not entitle the bearer to enter Japan upon arrival at port of entry if he or she is found inadmissible
