On 31 July 2011, 35 intrepid participants left for Japan from the Auckland office.
A pre-departure orientation was run by the Auckland JET Alumni Association on 30 July, where the new participants received valuable advice. In the evening, Consul-General Mr. Hachiro Ishida hosted a farewell reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and about 65 people attended.
