Consul General MATSUI made courtesy calls to bid farewell to Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown and Deputy Mayor Desley Simson before leaving his posting in May and had meetings with a view to boosting and creating future exchanges and various potential by Auckland and Japan as an engine for further development of the NZ-Japan relationship.

In response to this, the Consul General received the honor of acknowledgement of their appreciation for working closely to keep Auckland Council updated and connected with Japanese business and investment initiatives, the sister city relationships, educational and cultural exchange including the support of the Japanese education and the spread of Washoku (Japanese culinary culture), as well as Budo, Rugby, Football and other professional and youth sports, and music exchanges, and also to address common challenges for safety and harmony of the local communities.

While introducing a Dassai Nigori Sparkling and table grapes of Japanese variety grown by a NZ subsidiary of Greencollar Japan, for the Mayor and his team committed to fixing Auckland, the Consul General gifted them a motto: "Mix Japan and fix Auckland" to discuss matters and collaborate for the benefit of the diverse people in Auckland and our sustainable future in New Zealand and Japan.
