Consul General MATSUI attends the New Zealand – Japan Research Seminar held by the University of Waikato and Hiroshima University (19 February 2025)

On February 19, Consul General MATSUI attended the New Zealand – Japan Research Seminar held by the University of Waikato and Hiroshima University at Hamilton campus of the University of Waikato.

In the opening remarks, Prof Ross Lawrenson, Director of the Medical Research Centre in the University of Waikato,underlined the significance of the joint research programme, looking back on the last year’s impressive exchange in Hiroshima.  Consul General MATSUI expressed his appreciation and encouragement for this ongoing meaningful collaboration between the two countries, both of which are disaster-prone, hoping for the continued development of academic exchange between two universities.

At the seminar, the researchers from both universities made presentations and there were fruitful discussions on the respective characteristics and experiences of Japan and New Zealand regarding the sustainability of health and medical care, medical school education and also local and global challenges including disaster response and preparedness.
