The 2025 Auckland International Open Judo Championship was held at Barfoot & Thompson Stadium on 12 and 13 July.  This event was organised by Judo NZ (JNZ) and Auckland Judo Association with practitioners of Judo not only from New Zealand but all over the world.

Consul General MATSUI attended the Championship on 12 July and delivered his greeting message offering his sincere respect and appreciation to Mr David Mair, president of JNZ, Mr Johan Boshoff, president of the Auckland Judo Association, Mr Lawrie Crooke, the Tournament Director and all supporters for organising the championship to promote this traditional Japanese martial art in New Zealand and internationally.

The Consul General, talked of his own experience of learning Judo in high school and his awareness of the positive impact on his own physical and mental growth and learning of social manners through Judo, on what it takes to be a human,  and to be trusted in local society and the international community.  He also reaffirmed his continued support of Judo NZ activities, so that NZ Judo which is practised by learners and coaches of diverse ethnic backgrounds will be enjoyed by more men and women, and contribute to furthering people-to-people exchanges between Japan and New Zealand.
